AC Blanket Size Guide: Single, Double and King

Red ribbed fleece AC blanket covering a double bed

The right AC blanket is one that sits a little larger than your mattress on every side, so it stays on the bed when you turn over at night. In the market you will see Single, Double and King AC blankets, but the names mean different measurements from one seller to the next, so always compare the blanket's actual size with your measured mattress. Home Living's AC blankets come in one size: Double, 200 x 240 cm (about 79 x 94 inches).

Why size matters more than people think

An AC blanket that exactly matches your mattress edge to edge tends to get pulled off during the night, especially once the AC has the room properly cool and people move around under a light cover. A blanket that overhangs the mattress on all sides stays put much better, which is why "a little bigger than your bed" is the simplest rule to remember.

Typical Pakistani mattress sizes

Bed and mattress sizes vary between manufacturers, so treat these as general starting points, not exact numbers, and always measure your own bed before ordering.

Bed type Commonly seen mattress size
Single Roughly 36–42 x 72–78 inches
Double / Queen Roughly 54–60 x 75–78 inches
King Roughly 72–78 x 78–80 inches

How our Double AC blanket fits each bed

At 200 x 240 cm (about 79 x 94 inches), the Home Living AC blanket is longer than almost any Pakistani mattress, so length is rarely a problem. Width is what changes from bed to bed:

Your mattress How the 79 x 94 inch blanket fits
Single (about 36–42 inches wide) Generous overhang on both sides, enough to tuck in or let it drape
Double / Queen (about 54–60 inches wide) About 10–12 inches of overhang on each side, the best fit
King (about 72–78 inches wide) About 3–4 inches at each side on a 72-inch-wide mattress, and almost none on a wider one

So the Double size works well on single, double and queen beds. On a king bed the overhang is small, so if two people share a king bed and both move around a lot, you may prefer a wider blanket. The Size and GSM guide lists all our product measurements in one place.

How to measure your bed before you order

  1. Measure the mattress width and length with a tape, not by eye.
  2. Add the overhang you want on each side. A few inches is the minimum; 8–12 inches stays put better.
  3. Compare that total with the blanket's size in cm or inches, not with the size name on the label.
  4. If two people share the bed and move a lot at night, allow extra width.

Single, Double or King: what the names usually mean

Single

Made for one person on a single bed, a hostel bed or a child's bed. Compact and quick to wash and dry, but too narrow for a shared bed.

Double

The most common choice for couples and shared beds. This is the size most people mean when they search for a "double bed blanket", and it is the size we make.

King

Sold by some sellers for large king mattresses or for people who like a lot of overhang. Check the actual width, because a "king" from one seller can be smaller than a "double" from another.

Common sizing mistakes to avoid

  • Guessing instead of measuring. "Double" and "queen" mattresses are not standardised across Pakistani manufacturers, so a quick tape measurement removes the guesswork.
  • Matching the blanket exactly to the mattress edge. With no overhang, a small movement in your sleep can pull the blanket off.
  • Trusting the size name alone. Always compare the listed cm or inch size with your mattress.
  • Ignoring how the bed is shared. Two restless sleepers need more width than one.

Does the fabric change how the size feels?

A little. A soft, drapey fabric such as ribbed fleece falls over the mattress edge and stays in place, while a crisp, light weave can feel smaller because it lifts away from the bed. If you are still choosing a fabric, our AC blanket material guide compares fleece, cotton, waffle and muslin. For the bigger picture, start with how to choose the best AC blanket.

Frequently asked questions

What size blanket do I need for a double bed?

Look for a blanket at least 10 inches wider than your mattress. Our Double AC blanket is 200 x 240 cm (about 79 x 94 inches), which leaves roughly 10–12 inches of overhang on each side of a typical double or queen mattress.

Can I use a Double AC blanket on a single bed?

Yes. It will hang well over the sides, which many people like because it never slips off. Some fold it in half lengthways for a thicker feel on colder AC nights.

Will it fit a king size mattress?

On a 72 x 78 inch king mattress it leaves about 3–4 inches at each side, and plenty at the foot. One person on a king bed will usually find it enough; two restless sleepers may want something wider.

Will a bedsheet size guide help me pick an AC blanket size?

The method is the same: measure your mattress and allow extra. Our bedsheet size guide for Pakistan walks through it for sheets.
