Quick answer: What size bedsheet for a double bed? In Pakistan, a double mattress is commonly around 54–60 x 75–78 inches, so a flat double bedsheet of roughly 90 x 100 inches is the usual match. A single bed commonly takes a flat sheet of around 60–66 x 90 inches, and a king bed one of around 100–108 x 100–108 inches.

These are typical market ranges, not fixed rules. Sizes vary by maker, so the only way to be sure is to measure your own mattress first. This guide shows you how, and how to turn those numbers into the right sheet.

What are bed sheet sizes in Pakistan?

Most shops in Pakistan sell three main sizes: single, double and king. Some also use the word “queen”, which usually means the same thing as a wide double. The table below shows common ranges for the mattress and for a flat sheet that tucks in well.

Bed size Common mattress size (inches) Common flat sheet size (inches)
Single 36–42 x 72–78 60–66 x 90
Double / Queen 54–60 x 75–78 about 90 x 100
King 72–78 x 78–80 100–108 x 100–108

Notice how much bigger the sheet is than the mattress. A flat sheet has to cover the top, run down both sides and still leave several inches to tuck under. That is why a 60-inch-wide mattress needs a sheet that is about 90 inches wide.

What size bedsheet for a double bed, and why the label confuses people

For a typical double mattress of 54–60 inches wide, a flat sheet of about 90 x 100 inches is the usual fit. The tricky part is the name itself.

In Pakistan, the word “double” is used loosely. One shop's double sheet may be cut for a 54-inch mattress, while another shop sells a sheet at queen width or even close to king width and still calls it “double”. Furniture makers also build beds to local carpenter sizes rather than one national standard.

So two sheets labelled “double” can differ by 10 inches or more. Always read the actual measurements on the product, not just the size name. If you are stuck between a double and a king, our guide on whether a double sheet is the same as king size walks through the difference.

How to measure your mattress in three steps

You only need a measuring tape and two minutes. Take the bedding off first so you measure the mattress itself, not the old sheet.

  1. Width: measure across the mattress from left edge to right edge.
  2. Length: measure from the head end to the foot end.
  3. Depth (thickness): measure from the bottom seam to the top surface. Include any topper you keep on the bed.

Write the three numbers down in inches. Depth matters more than most people expect, especially for thick spring mattresses. Our article on how deep a fitted sheet should be covers this in detail.

How to work out the flat sheet size you need

Once you have your numbers, use this simple rule for a flat sheet:

  • Sheet width = mattress width + (2 x depth) + (2 x tuck allowance)
  • Sheet length = mattress length + (2 x depth) + (2 x tuck allowance)

A tuck allowance of about 6–8 inches on each side keeps the sheet firmly under the mattress. For example, a 60 x 78 inch mattress that is 8 inches deep needs a sheet about 60 + 16 + 14 = 90 inches wide and 78 + 16 + 14 = 108 inches long for a full tuck. A 100-inch length still works well if you tuck mainly at the sides.

If you prefer an elastic sheet that grips the corners, the maths is different: it should match the mattress size exactly, with a pocket deep enough for the thickness. See what a fitted (elastic) bedsheet is to decide which type suits you.

Size-by-size guide

Single bed

Single beds are a common choice in Pakistani homes for children's rooms, hostels and guest rooms. A mattress around 36–42 inches wide takes a flat sheet of about 60–66 x 90 inches. If your single mattress is very thick, pick the wider end of that range so the sheet still tucks in.

What size bedsheet for queen bed?

A queen mattress usually sits at the wide end of the double range, around 60 x 75–78 inches. A flat sheet of about 90 x 100 inches normally fits. Since Pakistani shops rarely separate queen from double, look at the listed width and make sure it is at least 90 inches for a deep mattress.

King bed

King mattresses are commonly around 72–78 x 78–80 inches. A flat sheet of about 100–108 inches square covers the top and sides with room to tuck. For a quick comparison of the two larger sizes, read king vs queen: which bedsheet is bigger.

Bed sheet size for a 6 x 6 bed

A “6 by 6” bed usually means a frame about 6 feet by 6 feet, or 72 x 72 inches. That is king width, so a king flat sheet of around 100–108 inches square is the safe choice. Some carpenters call a 6 x 6.5 foot bed “6 by 6” as well, so measure the mattress before you buy.

In-between sizes

Some older beds and daybeds are narrower than a double but wider than a single. These are often called 3/4 beds. Our 3/4 bed sheet size guide explains which sheet fits them.

Buying checklist

  • Measure width, length and depth of the mattress, not the bed frame.
  • Compare those numbers with the sheet measurements listed by the seller.
  • For a flat sheet, add about 6–8 inches per side for tucking.
  • Allow a little extra for shrinkage on 100% cotton, which can shrink slightly on the first few washes.
  • Check that pillow covers in a set match your pillow size.
  • If you use a thick mattress topper in winter, include it in your depth.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a king sheet on a double bed?

Yes, a flat king sheet will cover a double bed, but it will leave a lot of extra fabric to tuck under. That can look bulky and make the bed lumpy. An elastic king sheet will be too loose on a double mattress and will not stay in place.

Can I use a double sheet on a king bed?

Usually not. A typical double flat sheet of about 90 inches will barely cover the top and sides of a 72–78 inch king mattress, leaving no room to tuck. It will pull loose every night.

Are bedsheet sizes the same all over the world?

No. US, UK and European sizes differ from each other, and Pakistani sizes often follow local carpentry rather than any one standard. Treat size names as a rough guide and rely on inches.

Do pillow covers come in standard sizes?

Pillow sizes also vary between makers. Measure your pillow and compare it with the cover size listed on the product before buying a set.
